i found a subpoena on my doorstep to testify in a criminal case. I was not personally served with it. Am I under an obligation to show up in court?

You have to be personally served with a subpoena for it to command you to appear in a criminal case, unless they follow the mail-subpoena procedures, which requires the person receiving the sub to call in and acknowledge that they received it and supply their identifying information. But the old drop on the stoop practice is not service.
