Violent crimes broke out in downtown Minneapolis early on the morning of Monday September 16. Investigators are taking a look into what is being called overnight violence. The time in which the outbursts took place is right around the time that bars close up for the workday.
Four incidents occurred and currently investigators have been emphasizing that they do not believe them to be related. Nevertheless, evidence may suggest something to the contrary at some point in the future. For now, however, they are being treated as separate events more or less.
At 2:15 AM a shooting took place in the 200 block of 2nd Avenue North. It seems that the shooting took place outside of an establishment called Sex World. A woman who is 23 years old was shot in the leg.
Approximately five minutes afterward a man was stabbed in the back. He was standing in the middle of the street in the 400 block of 1st Avenue North. This location is about two blocks away from the shooting at Sex World.
Twenty minutes after this stabbing another man was shot in the arm. He was inside of the lobby of the B parking ramp next to Target Field. Only a few minutes passed before a juvenile resident was stabbed when riding his bicycle on the sidewalk. That stabbing took place near Hennepin Avenue South and 5th Street.
Members of the downtown council feel that as there is a good deal of money and energy invested in the downtown Minneapolis district people should still feel generally safe in spite of these crimes. District workers are apparently trying to make some changes, and another area establishment has changed hours of operation to avoid late crowds.
However, another area business manager feels that crime has escalated since clubs started to attract different ages of people. Changing types of groups have brought different people into these downtown businesses. That has started to put additional pressure on peace officers in the area, and that is beginning to make some individuals feel a bit on edge.
