On Monday July 29 a man was walking on the sidewalk near the area of 5th Avenue South and 43rd Street East. He was talking a walk at sometime around 6:30 PM in the area. A motor vehicle pulled up along side him soon after and opened fire.
The man died after suffering a wound as a result of a gunshot. However, death was not instantaneous. Investigators believe that the attack was not actually random either.
Police officers arrived on the scene. They found his body lying on the ground, but it actually appeared that they were going to be able to revive him. When they arrived the man was not dead, and there was some hope for him.
As a result they took him to HCMC. Nevertheless he died a short time afterwards. There wasn't anything that emergency medical personnel were able to do to save his life.
No one is in custody at the current time. Police have asserted, however, their suspicions that the shooting wasn't a random act of violence. They believe that the drive-by shooting happened for a reason. The man was apparently targeted. They haven't said what they feel that the motivation is, however.
Gang related violence usually follows a similar pattern, but it isn't safe to say that this violent crime was related to a gang war. Similar crimes sometimes happen during professional murder attempts. People are unfortunately sometimes paid a sum to exterminate the life of another human being. These cases are serious, and turn up in court with charges beyond merely homicide. For that matter, many gangland shootings can also carry additional charges depending on how they were carried out.
Since no one is currently in custody, the police are reaching out to the general community. They hope that other people will be able to provide additional important information. Investigators have stressed that witnesses have thus far cooperated with the police seemingly willingly. They would appreciate additional tips delivered via an anonymous tip line, however. These would aid the investigation further as it continues to unfold.
