According to the Orange County district attorney, a 36-year-old policeman was convicted last week for sexually assaulting three women. The convicted officer was found guilty of committing three felony counts of sexual sodomy. The jury was unable to provide a verdict for one felony count of rape.

The convicted officer, Jesse Andrew Green, was an active officer with the Garden Grove police department during the time in which his sexual assaults took place. According to a statement from the district attorney’s office, Green had gone on dates with his three victims in 2009, but when these relationships became sexual Green would resort to aggression during what were initially consensual encounters.  In addition to restraining and sodomizing his victims through forceful means, Green would intimidate and tell them that he had infected them with AIDS or herpes.

After being found guilty for committing three felony counts of forcible sodomy, Green faces up to 24 years in prison and will be forced to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his lifetime.

The crime of forcing anal sex on a person involving two adults in California is defined by California Penal Code 286(c). Although anal copulation is legal throughout the United States amongst consenting adults, to do so against one’s will is a felony criminal offense. PC 286(c) is a felony.

The following are California’s maximum penalties for those who perform sexual sodomy:
  • up to nine years in California State prison
  • formal probation
  • a $10,000.00 fine
Green was convicted of three sexual sodomy counts and may still be convicted of felony rape. Sexual assaults in California can be very difficult for defendants to bear. More than most other crimes, sexual assault charges can become public information very quickly, and can result in the loss of friends and family support for defendants during the time that they need it most.
