A relatively routine traffic stop helped Sacramento police seize a pretty large amount of drugs as well as several firearms. The traffic stop also led to the arrests of three different individuals. Investigators are saying that two of them are known gang members. While this is not technically a crime, police departments do keep dossiers on local gang affiliations.
On Saturday October 26, investigators from the Sacramento Police Department went to check out a home that was on Briggs Drive. That street is located in the Florin area. When they were able to actually investigate the property, they found five different firearms.
Besides these guns, police found 45 pounds of processes marijuana. They then found 400 Ecstasy pills along with a couple of ounces of cocaine. Additionally, they found $1,500 in cash. As a result of the drugs found, three arrests were made.
Geroge Vansee, age 24, David Su, age 28 and Devonte Sanchezy age 21 were all taken into custody. According to police reports, Sanchez and Vansee are known gang members. While Su is not, there is not a great deal of information available just yet on what police know about his past activity. More information could come in the future.
Each of these suspects face drug and weapon charges. Neighbors on the street that the arrests were made on told reporters that they were concerned by the findings. At least one resident said that these reports reflect a longtime problem that has plagued the region.
A sergeant with the Sacramento police also commented on the situation. He said that legal gun owners have to keep close watch on their firearms. Most people that the police take into custody for these crimes cannot legally own firearms.
They end up getting them from breaking into homes and motor vehicles. His testimony also stated that his team of officers has seized 127 illegally possessed weapons this year. This kind of problem could be avoided if those who legally own guns used appropriate gun handling techniques and insured that their weapons were not targets for thieves.
