I live in Colorado. I received a criminal subpoena from California by regular first class mail. Colorado was not involved.

Is that legal? A lawyer I consulted in Colorado said is not legal to bypass an out-of-state subpoena and suggested that I contact a criminal attorney in California for verification. I learned that one state's subpoena has no legal validity in another state. For that reason the Uniform Act to Secure the Attendance of Witnesses from without a State in Criminal Cases was adopted. The Uniform Act has been adopted by every state. California subpoenas are sent to the witness in the foreign state, and they simply hope that the witness appears in court (feels compelled to show up) in California. (From an article written by Robert G. Scofield, Attorney). Thank you for your help.
